Core Competencies
Core competencies are the aggregate of my career and educational experiences categorized into domains of high competence and capability. This is not to say that all of my experiences and capabilities are core competencies. Rather, I consider specific knowledge domains where I can at a high level easily succeed, to be a core competency. Other competencies, while not necessarily defined as core, are still domains of knowledge and ability on their way to becoming core.

This in mind, I nurture my core competencies and leverage them to help me succeed, but also know they can provide a foundation for the next success.

Core Competencies




Account & Client Management


I managed five key pharmaceutical and biotech clients including Eli Lilly, Genzyme, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Proctor & Gamble.  Prior to this I managed projects for key retail clients including Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, School Specialties and the UK’s Royal Mail.




Department and Team Management


I have led people, processes, programs, projects, and information systems in both large and small organizations for more than 15 years placing particular emphasis on team coaching and development, process improvement, cost control and developing trust. I am strong in the face of rapid change and increased competition and function equally well in traditional or matrix organizations.




IT and Software Infrastructure Development


I have amassed nearly 18 years of IT architecture and infrastructure development experience with heterogeneous environments including UNIX, PC, MAC, Network and database infrastructure. I have successfully deployed enterprise class software implementations and roll-outs, system interfaces, and department/team construction.




Program Direction


I earned eight years of experience managing many related projects under a program with the intention of providing consistency and efficiency across system implementations. Even though each project may be in a different phase of its lifecycle, it is imperative that all are executed under the same processes associated with the overall corporate program.




Project Management


Over the past 18 years, I have managed a multitude of software development, software performance, IT Infrastructure and enterprise software deployment projects with individual project values from $50K to $2.2M. I am a certified PMP well disciplined in planning, organization, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives. Project & Program Rescue and Resurrection


I have developed a unique ability to rescue, rebuild or recover projects, client relationships and departments.

Examples include:

  • Rebuilding and centralizing a mismanaged heterogeneous system infrastructure
  • Rebuilding a dysfunctional performance engineering department
  • Resurrecting a dying relationship with a key client




Quality Process Management


I have worked with ISO9000 and 21 CFR Part 11.  I created and led a Software Engineering Process Group (SEPG) for a semiconductor company and have been trained by the SEI in the Capability Maturity Model (CMM). I also have training in biopharmaceutical GMP.




Relationship Development


I earned more than 12 years of experience developing quality relationships with clients by building trust, developing respect, fostering communication and driving issues to resolution.




Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)


I have used, executed, and helped define and deploy many SDLC models over the course of the past 18 years.  I have directed many software development projects and can easily adapt and drive a project to conclusion using any SDLC methodology.




Strategic Planning and Thinking


Strategic planning and thinking, pushing the edge of technology, incorporating the best and most promising future technologies and determining how to get there is one of my strongest abilities.  I take a long range approach to strategic planning focusing on the obstacles preventing reaching the final destination as opposed to taking a start to finish approach.




Team Leadership & Development


With more than 15 years of experience leading teams, I have completed and implemented the results of various training programs including training in Human Factors, Communication Styles, Coaching, Managing Through Change and Managing Contentious Situations.  These factors build trust within the team, create synergistic relationships with staff members, and creating pride in team accomplishments.




Vendor Compliance Audits


I am experienced with ISO 9000 and GMP audits including directing three vendor compliance audits conducted by top tier pharmaceutical clients, all of which resulted in obtaining or maintaining preferred vendor certification. I have led ISO9000 vendor audits that successfully maintained compliance for a semiconductor company.
